Blogging

Beautiful

When I was around 10 years old, my aunt would spend a lot of time with me and my younger sister. She would say to my sister, “You’re so beautiful.” Then, she would turn to me and say, “You’re so smart.” No, I’m not bitter. My sister and I laugh about it now, but at the time, I thought, Why can’t I be the “beautiful” one? For the record, my sister is both beautiful and smart, and I love her dearly.

Well, I’m excited to say that I received my “beautiful” compliment from Elizabeth at His Eye is On This Sparrow, who nominated my blog for the Beautiful Blogger Award. Thank you, Elizabeth! We began our blogging journey around the same time. And though we’ve never met in person, God allowed our paths to cross in the blogosphere. She writes with heart and sincerity and comes across so naturally that it feels like you are sitting down with a friend over coffee, having a wonderful conversation.

Beauty can be so subjective. There is beauty everywhere, whether external or internal, but in reality, it all comes from God. Where is true beauty but in the One who is the source of all beauty. “One thing have I asked of The Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of The Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of The Lord and to inquire in his temple” (Psalm 27:4). My desire is that any beauty found in this blog would be because of The Lord.

To accept the Beautiful Blogger Award, the rules are as follows:
20130428-221824.jpg1. Post the award on to your blog.
2. Remember to thank the blogger who nominated you and link back to their site.
3. Post 7 random facts about yourself to help us to get to know you better.
4. Nominate 7 new bloggers you consider noteworthy.
5. Don’t forget to leave a message for those you nominate that you chose them.

I’m going to tweak things a bit. Instead of listing 7 random things about myself (because that won’t be too exciting anyway), I will list 7 things that I find beautiful because God made them beautiful.
Moon (2004/12/21)1. The moon. Whether full or crescent, I love staring at this beauty of the night sky that God has created.
2. My children’s eyes. They all have long lashes, and that just makes their eyes even brighter.
3. My son, Gabriel’s smile. As a typical 7-year-old, he has a lot of missing front teeth, but I love how cute he looks when he smiles. I’m savoring this now before all his permanent teeth come in.
4. The passion in my husband’s voice when he is teaching others about the glories of Christ.
5. People in the midst of great affliction but possess peace that surpasses all comprehension. I’ve known many. Whether terminal illness, a broken marriage, or the death of a child, they are immovable in their faith. That is beautiful!
6. A heart that sees for the first time the beauty of Christ.
7. The cross of Christ. He paid for our sins. He conquered death. He tore the veil that previously kept us from approaching the throne of God.

And now, I nominate the following blogs for the Beautiful Blogger Award because in their posts, I believe they display true beauty, the beauty of The Lord. God has used each and every one of them to move my gaze heavenward and behold Him in all His beauty and splendor. I hope you will be encouraged by them as well.

  1. Thank you so much for including me on your list. I’m a baby blogger and yours has been an incredible inspiration. I accept the compliment (like you “Beautiful” is a compliment seldom used to describe me) but it might take me a while to compile my list. Yours is one of the few I follow and would have made it on my list as well.

    1. I have been so encouraged by your testimony, not just when The Lord first drew you to Himself, but also as you are going in faith to pursue this ministry opportunity. No hurry in passing on the award. There’s no time limit on it. It’s simply a wonderful way to bless others.

  2. Hello! I have nominated you for the Liebster Award, an award that fellow bloggers pass along to blogs they enjoy that have less than 200 followers (and should have more)! You might have seen it on other friends’ blogs as it has become a popular award in the blogging community. I have enjoyed reading your posts and wanted to take this opportunity to spread the word about your blog. All you need to do is check out the official details here, http://iteachspeech.wordpress.com/2013/04/30/an-honor/ and follow the directions in this post. Happy blogging!

    1. Wow! Thank you! I am truly honored! I appreciate your blog as well, not only as a helpful resource but also as a reminder to find the funny moments when working with my son on his speech and communication. Blessings to you!

  3. Thank you. Reading your beautiful things about God made me cry. I agree with every one. Thank you for your very special blog. Thank you for all your encouragement and thank you for nominating my blog too. It’s beyond special – as are you.

    1. You’re so sweet! I have been equally encouraged by you and others that I have met through blogging. I honestly was not expecting to connect with so many wonderful people, but what a blessing it has been from The Lord! I think your “Dear Fellow Bloggers” post expresses what I feel as well. I will add the link here, so others can “stumble” upon it. πŸ™‚

      1. Thank you so much. I am completely overwhelmed. I am looking forward to being able to nominate others for this blog too. However I am very new and technically deficient. You have impressively ‘tagged’ your nominees. Please can you tell me how to do the same.

        1. Sure! When you’re working on a post, there should be a “link” button on the upper left side, next to the bold and italics buttons. If you don’t see it, make sure you are in “text” mode instead of “visual” mode (these tabs are on the upper right side). When you click on “link”, you can enter the web address of the blogger and the title/text that you want to appear “on top” of that link. This is how I figured out how to do it. I’m not sure if there’s an easier way. πŸ™‚ Let me know if you have any other questions.
Looking forward to your post on this. It’s nice to pass on the blessings!

        2. I would like to pass it back to you but in the spirit of paying it forward I want you to know that you would definitely be on my list as your blog is a great blessing to me.
I’ll give that a try. Thanks again

  4. This is so beautiful! I love how you shared 7 things that you think are beautiful that God created. I also think you have a beautiful blog! I have loved everything I have read and God has used your words to enlighten me, convict me and encourage me. Thank you for stepping out in obedience to the Father! You are a blessing!

I’m beyond honored that you would think my blog is beautiful. I actually teared up! You gave me great amounts of encouragement today. Thank you!

    1. You could be doing this alone, but the fact that you are willing to share the desires that God has given you with so many others widens your sphere of ministry. It is a blessing that you are using your blog to encourage others and ultimately, give glory to The Lord!
